Kids on the slope / Sakamichi no Apollon
Released Year : 2012
No of Episodes : 12 (Completed)
Genre : Drama, Music, Romance, School, Slice of Life
Plot : Kaoru, an aloof honour student, has always moved from town to town due to his father's work, this means he never really settled anywhere either. Moving to Kyushu he expected it to be the same as always, yet this time something was different. He first grew close to the class president, but even more interesting was his shared connection with her and the class 'bad boy' over music, more specifically Jazz. Here in Kyushu, he finally forms his first real friendships.
Our Review : Sakamichi no Apollon is seemingly about a bunch of kids sharing a love of jazz, it focuses too much on the drama, whereas the music often takes a back seat. Besides the plot not being overly complex, there are other things noteworthy about Sakamichi no Apollon. One aspect that really stands out is realism. This is one anime where music speaks louder than words a lot of times. Jazz is such a freeform expression and I'm not a big fan of it but it is done so well. But aside from the jazzy improvisations and sounds there is a quiet beauty to this anime.
